VIRTUAL SUCCESS ADVISOR (PT) NATIONAL Who We Are and What We Believe:

Founded in 1997, Bottom Line is a nationally recognized nonprofit organization with a mission to partner with degree-aspiring students from first-generation and low-income backgrounds as they get into college, graduate, and launch meaningful careers. For nearly 30 years, Bottom Line has provided consistent, one-on-one support to help students navigate the challenges of accessing and succeeding in college.

We serve students from 9th grade through career launch through our signature programming in Massachusetts, New York City, Chicago, Ohio, Detroit, and Houston and scaled supports available nationwide. Our vision is to create a far-reaching ripple effect, launched by the transformative power of a college degree and a mobilizing first career, that uplifts individuals, families, and entire communities.

When you join Bottom Line, you will become a part of a team that combines passion with expertise to advance equity and opportunity for degree-aspiring students. In our dynamic, results-driven environment, your contributions will help shape brighter futures and stronger communities.

What You Will Do:

The Virtual Success Advisor (PT) is a national role responsible for supporting college students from first-generation and low-income backgrounds through Bottom Line's virtual advising model. Reporting to the Senior Program Manager on the National Program Team, this role spearheads Bottom Line's hybrid advising approach, serving students through customized content delivered via SMS and supplemented by live, virtual sessions when escalation requires more nuanced guidance.

The Virtual Success Advisor (PT) is part of a connected national and regional team. When a student's situation calls for in-person intervention, the advisor partners with the regional Success Coach so the student is seen and supported.

As Bottom Line scales toward our 2030 ambition of serving 20,000 students, the Virtual Success Advisor is the human anchor of our scaled advising support layer.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Provide responsive support to students via a communal advising model that combines technology and live virtual support
  • Engage directly with students by monitoring student communication on our messaging platforms, answering student questions and engaging in a more meaningful way when the chat bot does not sufficiently support a student, and offering "live virtual support" through video calls and live chats
  • Coach students through completing key milestones centered around Bottom Line's DEAL (Degree, Employability, Affordability, Life Skills) model including but not limited to:
  • Enrolling in classes
  • Paying semester balance
  • Creating a professional resume
  • Completing financial aid applications
  • Help students resolve general obstacles that come up throughout the school year by coaching them on self-advocacy and resourcefulness skills, and communicating with school offices to advocate for students when necessary
  • Support with the implementation of a summer melt campaign to ensure students achieve critical milestones that support their enrollment in the fall, including but not limited to:
  • Finalizing outstanding financial aid issues (verification, institutional forms, etc.)
  • Paying fall balance or creating a payment plan
  • Completing important forms to support student's on-campus or commuting plan (housing, meal plans, transportation plan, etc.)
  • Accessing work study and other campus resources
  • Coordinate with regional Success Coaches when a student's situation calls for in-person intervention, including campus-level advocacy, crisis navigation, and community support, and document the handoff in Salesforce so the student experience is seamless
Program Support – 10%
  • Contribute to and strengthen Bottom Line’s national advising knowledge base by documenting regional resources, student supports, and effective strategies to support continuous improvement and scaled support
  • Engage in scalable advising services, including admissions and scholarship essay and resume review, asynchronous advising, and text-based advising via Get Schooled, ensuring high-quality, actionable feedback that aligns with…
