Join the vibrant, community-minded team at Frederick County Public Libraries (FCPL)! We are seeking a creative, energetic, and visionary individual to become part of our team. Located in Central Maryland between Washington D.C. and Baltimore, FCPL is a rapidly developing system of nine libraries and two bookmobiles. Exempt; full-time; 40 hours per week; varying schedule during regular FCPL hours; full-benefits; position is subject to system wide re-assignment

This position develops and manages digital and print collections for all ages, evaluates materials using data and community input, and makes cost-effective acquisition decisions within budgetary constraints. The position collaborates with staff, vendors, and community partners, monitors expenditures, and supports system-wide initiatives to ensure collections reflect diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging while providing customer service and technical support for library resources.

The upper pay range reflects possible wage rates for internal County transfers and promotions, which are calculated per County policy. For external hires, offers are made at the base wage rate.

TOTAL COMPENSATION PACKAGE:
  • 11 days of Vacation leave with increase after 2 years of employment

NOTE:

Benefited employees will accrue service and leave based on the FTE and/or hours worked per calendar year.

  • Serve as the primary digital materials manager for the library system
  • Evaluate and select digital resources and databases, ebooks, digital media, audiovisual materials, and print materials for customers of all ages
  • Provide customer service to library staff and customers
  • Evaluate and analyze the library digital collection, and make acquisition decisions using quantitative and qualitative data to ensure responsiveness to demand and community needs
  • Ensure diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging are reflected in digital library collections
  • Collaborate with Library Collections team and outside vendors to acquire new digital resources and improve existing collections
  • Assist the Library Collections Manager to prepare the annual materials budget recommendation
  • Monitor expenditures and ensure effective use of budgeted funds
  • Coordinate with Technical Services to assure effective acquisition, processing, and distribution of materials
  • Respond to internal and external inquiries concerning the Library Collections policy and defend purchase and placement decisions using professional expertise
  • Consult with branch managers, department managers, and staff to ensure effective selection of materials that meet community needs
  • Review purchase suggestions from staff and community members to determine suitability for library collections
  • Work with outside vendors to develop comprehensive opening day collections for new or expanded library branches
  • Review local authors’ donated materials for possible addition to the collection
  • Provide technical support to staff and customers for digital resources
  • Develop and conduct training for staff regarding collection management and library resources
  • Attend trainings and review professional literature to remain knowledgeable about publishing trends, information dissemination, library services, digital resources, technology, and community interests
  • Act as the expert on digital resources for the library system
