Description

Leidos is seeking Distribution Designers to work in Minneapolis, MN. The contract opportunity is to work with our team on the MYR Master Design Build contract. The role involves providing distribution design engineering for overhead, underground, and underground residential feeders across the client's distribution footprint, developing construction work packages using GIS, CAD, WMS, and other client systems.

Temp‑to‑perm status
:
This position requires the successful candidate to work for a contractor in a temp‑to‑perm format, with the possibility of converting to a direct Leidos employee in approximately six months from the initial hire date.

Project work will include performing engineering calculations such as structural analysis of poles, guying, cable pulling, electric demand, fault currents, and coordination of protective devices. Additional assignments may include preparing forestry trimming requests, facilitating permit and Right‑of‑Way acquisition, developing a Bill of Materials, estimating costs, and customer advocacy such as acquiring easements or calculating a customer Contribution in Aid of Construction (CIAC).

Designer Responsibilities
  • Develop work packages for overhead, underground residential distribution, and underground cable/conduit projects.
  • Conduct field visits or field engineering to clarify project requirements.
  • Identify conflicting utilities and resolve issues.
  • Perform engineering and design calculations for the distribution system.
  • Carry out post‑construction reviews.
Required Education & Experience
  • 2‑year technical degree or high school diploma with less than 2 years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with STORMS, Katapult, ESRI, AutoCAD, PDS, and GIS.
  • Familiarity with Pole Loading software (DDS, O‑Calc, SPIDA Calc, Pole Foreman, LD Field).
  • Proven ability to communicate with clients and project teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with third‑party make‑ready design and electric utility distribution design.
  • Experience developing civil and electrical packages for third‑party carriers.
  • Ability to read and interpret client‑supplied documents and standards.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Strong understanding of mathematics.
Pay Range

Pay Range $35,100.00 – $63,450.00. This range is a general guideline and does not guarantee compensation.
