Service Now Discovery Specialist – SNMP and Network Device Focus

We are seeking a seasoned Service Now Discovery Specialist with deep expertise in SNMP-based discovery, particularly for printers and network devices. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in developing and extending discovery patterns, managing IT Asset Management (ITAM) processes, and ensuring accurate Configuration Management Database (CMDB) population. This role will report to Director of the Service Now IT Asset Management and Configuration Management (CMDB) team.

As a Service Now Discovery Specialist, you will be responsible for requirement development and analysis as well as custom pattern development as required to meet customer needs. This role will work directly with the Service Now CMDB Discovery team.

Required Qualifications:

• Experience: Minimum of 5 years in Service Now Discovery and CMDB integration, with a focus on SNMP-based discovery for network devices.
• Technical Proficiency: Strong expertise in SNMP protocols (v1, v2c, v3), MIBs, and OIDs. Proven experience in developing and extending discovery patterns within Service Now.
• ITAM Knowledge: Familiarity with IT Asset Management processes, hardware model management, and hardware normalization techniques.
• Scripting Skills: Proficiency in JavaScript and Power Shell for custom development and automation.
• Certifications: Service Now Certified Implementation Specialist – Discovery; additional certifications in CMDB or ITOM are advantageous.
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Network Device Expertise: In-depth knowledge of network devices, including configuration and management.
• Security Compliance: Understanding of security frameworks and compliance requirements related to network device management.
• HAM Expertise: In-depth knowledge of hardware asset lifecycle management, model normalization, and compliance requirements.
• Project Management: Experience leading cross-functional projects and initiatives involving multiple stakeholders. Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
• Customer Focus: Demonstrated ability to assess customer/client needs, creatively approach solutions, decide, and influence appropriate courses of action.

Key Responsibilities:

• SNMP-Based Discovery: Configure and manage SNMP discovery processes for network devices, including printers, switches, and routers. Ensure proper classification and identification using SNMP OIDs and MIBs.
• Custom Pattern Development: Design, develop, and maintain custom discovery patterns and pattern extensions to accommodate unique device attributes and ensure comprehensive data collection.
• ITAM Integration: Collaborate with ITAM teams to align discovery data with hardware models and normalization processes, enhancing asset lifecycle management.
• CMDB Accuracy: Ensure accurate and up-to-date CMDB entries by implementing effective identification and reconciliation strategies.
• MID Server Management: Oversee MID Server configurations, ensuring optimal performance and connectivity for discovery operations.
• Documentation & Training: Develop comprehensive documentation and provide training to internal teams on discovery processes, best practices, and troubleshooting techniques.
