is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Garage Supervisor (
Garage Supervisor G) , Grade
G26 position, in the
Fleet Management Division
.
About The Position This is a first-line supervisory level, technical, and mechanical work, whereby the incumbent manages the County’s garage maintenance operations, which includes maintenance, service, and repair of a wide variety of light to heavy motorized equipment, vehicles, or fire and rescue apparatus. Work is performed with a considerable degree of independent judgment and initiative, under the general supervision of a higher-level Manager;
and is evaluated in terms of work production, timelines, and adherence to established policies and procedures.
About The Agency The Office of Central Services is a multifaceted agency of the Prince George’s County Government providing government-wide, mission critical support services in the areas of facilities operations and management, building design & construction, real estate services, fleet management, and general services. We make government operations operate better for the government.
Examples of Work- Supervises the daily operations of the County’s central vehicle maintenance and repair facility, to include body shop operations.
- Oversees preparation of repair work orders and dispatches tow trucks for road service calls.
- Monitors all warranties on equipment and components and follows through with manufacturers as needed.
- Performs all analysis of costs associated with the acquisition and maintenance of classes of equipment in order to prepare life cycle costing studies and replacement analysis.
- Assists the Fleet Management Service Office with customer service functions.
- Supervises garage employees.
- Monitors and ensures work assignments of subordinates are completed on time and in compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Writes and conducts performance evaluations, provides guidance and counseling, assist in handling disciplinary actions, employee complaints and grievances.
- Coordinates and assists in the scheduling of in-house and outside training for technicians and supportive staff.
- Monitors effectiveness and quality control of garage maintenance programs.
- Evaluates, updates and upgrades the Preventive Maintenance (PM) program.
- Assists in the procurement of parts and services with outside vendors and parts department.
- Conducts spot checks and scheduled safety inspections to ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Maryland Occupational Safety and Health MOSH standards.
- Willingly and cooperatively performs tasks and duties which may not be specifically listed in the class specification or position description, but which are within the general occupational category and responsibility level typically associated with the employee’s class for work.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma/GED
- Three (3) years of Master/Assistant Garage Supervisor level experience in the mechanical field servicing, repairing, and providing preventative maintenance on a variety of light, medium and heavy motorized equipment, vehicles or fire and rescue equipment
- Two (2) years of experience supervising full performance level mechanics
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
- Possess and maintain a valid Department of Transportation medical Certification card
