Job SummaryThe Medical Surgical RN is responsible for providing safe evidence based nursing care to adult and geriatric patients by assessing treating monitoring educating and documenting patient care while maintaining competency in clinical skills emergency response specialized equipment and electronic medical records in accordance with military treatment facility and Joint Commission standards The role also includes collaborating with the interdisciplinary team supporting quality improvement and patient safety initiatives precepting new staff maintaining required certifications and competencies and adapting to unit needs including floating and participation in readiness and customer service activities
Required Qualifications EducationAssociates degree in nursing from an accredited school of Nursing or Bachelors degree in nursing from an accredited school of Nursing
CertificationsBasic Life Support BLSAdvanced Cardiac Life Support ACLS; preferred
LicenseRN with a current active full and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State the District of Columbia the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico or a territory of the United States
ExperienceThree 3 years full time experience within the last five years in Caring for Adult patients in an Acute Care SettingUS Citizenship is required
Key Responsibilities- Medical Surgical RN competency and experience
- Maintain required RN skills complete competency checklists and demonstrate knowledge of medical surgical nursing practices standards and procedures
- Strong patient assessment and clinical care skills Ability to assess adult and geriatric patients recognize changes in condition develop and implement nursing care plans administer treatments and provide safe patient centered care
- Emergency and critical care response abilities Ability to respond quickly to life threatening situations such as cardiacrespiratory arrest hemorrhage shock and trauma; participate in Rapid Response Team and Code Blue events
- Medication administration and technical nursing skills Proficiency in administering medications managing IV therapy blood products PCA pumps epidural infusions wound care and operating specialized medical equipment
- Communication documentation and teamwork skills Ability to communicate effectively with patients families and healthcare teams; provide education collaborate with providers and maintain accurate electronic medical records

On site at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center Bethesda Maryland Night shift 645pm to 715amWeekend rotation required; one weekend per month
12 hour shifts 36 hours per week no over time Paid holidays
The position requires the physical ability to stand walk bend lift transfer and reposition patients throughout extended shifts while safely operating medical equipment and performing direct patient care The RN must also have the stamina manual dexterity visual and auditory acuity and ability to respond quickly to emergencies including performing CPR and participating in rapid response and resuscitation efforts
Compensation & BenefitsUp to 6050 per hour
