Registered Nurse; RN Intensive Care Unit

Full-Time Day/Night Rotation | Bethesda, Maryland

We are seeking one experienced Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse to provide safe, high-acuity patient care at the NIH Clinical Center. This full-time contract opportunity may lead to long-term or permanent employment based on performance and continued staffing needs.

Schedule

• Full-time, 36 hours per week

• Rotating day and night shifts

• Weekend and holiday coverage required as needed

$90,000 - $100,000 a year

Minimum Qualifications

• Active, valid, and unrestricted RN license issued by at least one U.S. state, territory, or commonwealth

• Associate degree, nursing diploma, or bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited institution

• Successful completion of the NCLEX-RN

• Two to three years of current critical‑care nursing experience in an acute‑care hospital

• Current Basic Life Support certification

• Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification

• Demonstrated current competency in intensive‑care nursing

• Effective English communication skills

• Computer literacy and proficiency with electronic clinical documentation

• U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident/Green Card status

Preferred Qualification

• Current Critical Care Registered Nurse certification

Primary Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, deliver, and evaluate nursing care for critically ill patients

• Perform comprehensive and ongoing critical‑care assessments

• Continuously monitor patients and promptly respond to changes in condition

• Manage patients requiring advanced monitoring, complex medication regimens, and life‑support therapies

• Administer medications, titratable infusions, blood products, and treatments as ordered and within the RN’s authorized scope of practice

• Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms, laboratory findings, hemodynamic data, and other clinical information

• Recognize emergencies and initiate appropriate interventions, including ACLS protocols

• Operate critical‑care equipment safely and verify alarms and safety settings

• Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential clinical documentation

• Educate and support patients and their families

• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other members of the interdisciplinary team

• Follow NIH clinical protocols, infection‑control practices, patient‑safety requirements, and professional standards

• Participate in required orientation, training, and competency activities

• Float to another critical‑care or patient‑care area when needed, provided the assignment is within the RN’s demonstrated competency and scope of practice

Additional Requirements

Selected candidates must satisfy NIH credentialing, health, immunization, security, fingerprinting, background‑investigation, and facility‑access requirements. All required licenses, certifications, competencies, and health documentation must remain current throughout the assignment.
