Medical Laboratory Scientist (Blood Bank) - NIH

** Blood Bank Technologist.
** This is a long-term, full-time, contract position based in Bethesda, MD. This position offers a competitive benefits package.  
** Shift: 8 hour Rotational (1st and 2nd Shift).*
* ** Pay: $42-$46/hr.*

* PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

*
* + Operate, calibrate, or maintain equipment used in quantitative or qualitative analysis, such as spectrophotometers, calorimeters, flame photometers, or computer-controlled analyzers

+ Maintain laboratory equipment

+ Perform component manufacturing duties i.e. prepare blood components such as frozen plasma, cryoprecipitate, leuko-reduced RBC, buffy coats from whole blood collections and pathogen reduced platelets.

+ Perform lot release and labeling for blood components

+ Perform laboratory testing pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical phases in accordance with regulatory and accrediting agency requirements.

+ Evaluate blood transfusion orders for appropriateness based on screening criteria.

+ Communicate with nurses and physicians to clarify questionable transfusion or testing orders

+ Perform compatibility cross match testing of donor and patient-recipient samples using automated and manual methods.

+ Independently resolve routine RBC blood group antibody problems.

+ Perform moderately complex testing to resolve complex RBC blood group antibody problems in consultation with technical specialist.

** REQUIREMENTS** .

+ Completion of an accredited clinical laboratory training program in laboratory science.

+ Minimum three (3) years of blood bank bank experience in laboratory environment is preferred.

+ ASCP or AMT certification, required.
