Description
This postdoctoral research opportunity is available within the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research (OBSSR). The project engages the participant in applying data science methods to examine grant portfolio outcomes for NIH‑funded participants, including collaborations, publishing, and obtaining subsequent research support.
Responsibilities- Explore ways to deepen expertise in current discipline while broadening knowledge into additional areas, developing a well‑rounded interdisciplinary skill set.
- Engage in NIH grant data analysis, data quality assessment methodologies, bibliometric and network analysis techniques, and quantitative approaches to evaluate research productivity and training program outcomes.
- Advance evidence‑informed approaches to behavioral and social sciences research (BSSR) training and career development mechanisms.
- Refine scientific communication skills by briefing NIH staff with findings through white papers, posters, publications, and conference presentations.
- Age 18 years or older.
- Doctoral degree in a relevant field received within the last five years of the appointment start date or currently pursuing a doctoral degree.
- Knowledge or experience in data science, bibliometrics, network analysis, or related quantitative methods.
- Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills.
This opportunity is available to U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents (LPR), and foreign nationals who meet lawful immigration status requirements. Non‑U.S. citizen applicants must refer to the Guidelines for Non‑U.S. Citizens for acceptable immigration statuses.
LocationParticipants must be fully engaged in‑person at the NIH Main Campus in Bethesda, Maryland.
Compensation and BenefitsMonthly stipend to offset living and other expenses. NIH may provide a health insurance supplement to cover the monthly premium cost if the ORAU/ORISE health insurance plan is elected. No employment‑related benefits are provided.
Appointment LengthInitial appointment of one year, renewable annually for up to four additional years upon recommendation of NIH, contingent on availability of funds.
Nature of AppointmentParticipants are not employees of NIH, DOE, ORISE, or ORAU and do not receive employment benefits.
