The Kidney Genetics and Genomics Unit within the Physician Scientist Development Program at the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) is now seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to conduct innovative research focused on the development and molecular mechanisms of structural kidney diseases.
About the positionThe successful candidate will join a collaborative, multidisciplinary research team dedicated to advancing the understanding of kidney disease through the integration of cutting-edge genomic, transcriptomic, and functional approaches. This position offers the opportunity to lead independent research projects while collaborating with physician-scientists, geneticists, computational biologists, and laboratory researchers.
The successful candidate will conduct independent research focused on the genetic and molecular mechanisms underlying structural kidney diseases through the analysis of single-nucleus transcriptomic (sci-RNA-seq3, 10x Genomics) and genome sequencing (Illumina, Oxford Nanopore, Pac Bio) datasets. As such, this fellow will identify signaling pathways and genetic variants associated with kidney disease, develop computational approaches for multi-omics data analysis, collaborate with interdisciplinary research teams, present findings at scientific meetings, and publish results in peer-reviewed journals.
Opportunities to participate in laboratory-based studies, including kidney tissue immunohistochemistry and biochemical assays, are also available.
Apply for this vacancyProspective applicants should have a Ph.D., M.D., M.D./Ph.D., and/or an equivalent doctoral degree in Genetics, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field. Candidates must also have demonstrated expertise in the computational analysis of transcriptomic and/or genomic datasets, with a strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
The most successful applicants will have the ability to lead independent research projects, work effectively in an interdisciplinary team, and to communicate well via excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills.
