The Center for Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias at the National Institute on Aging is seeking an innovative and highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to lead spatial 'omics' studies in Alzheimer’s disease and Frontotemporal Dementia.

About the position

Prospective postdoctoral fellows will conduct research focused on understanding selective neuronal vulnerability and glial dysfunction in Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias through the integration of human neuropathology, spatial 'omics', and computational approaches. As such, this postdoctoral researcher will work with human postmortem brain tissues to develop and optimize spatial transcriptomics and multi-omics workflows, including tissue quality control pipelines and experimental protocols.

In close collaboration with CARD bioinformatics experts and consortium partners, this fellow will also contribute to the development and application of AI- and machine learning-based approaches for neuropathological segmentation, quantification, and biological interpretation.

While this postdoc will be formally embedded in the Molecular Pathology Unit under Dr. Elise Marsan, their project will be part of a broader collaborative effort involving the Path-ND consortium and the 10,000 Brains Initiative. This provides the unique opportunity to work at the interface of neurodegeneration, advanced molecular profiling, and machine learning while collaborating extensively with other intramural NIH laboratories, extramural partners, and CARD expert groups, including the Advanced Analytics group Data Tecnica.
