HJF is seeking a Research Assistant I – Animal Model Research to perform research and/or development in collaboration with others for projects. The Research Assistant provides laboratory and technical support to senior technical and professional staff and solves less complex problems in carrying out research projects in a laboratory environment.
This position will be in support of Dr. Sanchita Ghosh, developing medical countermeasures in a rodent model of Acute Radiation Syndrome at the Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute within the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.

Responsibilities- Performs laboratory research projects, including collection and organization of data.
- Performs various molecular assays (ELISA, RT-PCR and Western blot), follows instructions and standard operating procedures.
- Performs data entry in an accurate, timely, and efficient manner, maintaining clear and accurate data collection records and inventories in accordance with Good Clinical and/or Good Laboratory practices.
- Maintains supplies in the laboratory and ensures proper cleanliness and sanitation in accordance with Good Clinical and/or Good Laboratory practices.
- Creates, collects, disseminates, and maintains appropriate study data.
- Assists with animal studies, including placing orders, administering drugs to animals through various routes, blood and tissue harvest, counting blood cells after harvest, making detailed observations about experiments, and providing basic data analysis and interpretation.
- Assists in the preparation of technical reports, summaries, and protocols; creates and communicates detailed observations on experiments.
- May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor, including attendance of required training for the role.
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Minimum of 0–2 years experience required.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of standard laboratory techniques.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions.
- Good communication and analytical skills.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check.
- Lifting:
Requires lifting materials over 25 lbs. - Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.
- This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.
- The hourly pay range for this position is $19.33 – $24.00. Actual hourly pay will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
