The National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI), a major research component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), is seeking exceptional candidates for a Staff Scientist position in the Metabolism, Infection & Immunity Section (MINIS), Metabolic Medicine Branch (MMB). MINIS research interest surrounds genetics, pathophysiology and treatment of hereditary mitochondrial disorders.
About the positionThe Staff Scientist will:
- Lead experimental studies of mitochondrial function and bioenergetics in human tissues and cellular models;
- Develop and optimize assays of oxidative phosphorylation, respiratory chain activity and organization, and mitochondrial cellular phenotypes;
- Analyze and interpret experimental data;
- Maintain rigorous standards for assay quality and reproducibility;
- Oversee the organization, inventory, storage, tracking, and stewardship of protocol-derived biospecimens in accordance with applicable regulatory, institutional, and research protocol requirements.
The Staff Scientist will also mentor junior staff and collaborate with NHGRI and other investigators on studies of mitochondrial dysfunction in human disease.
Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
