What You Will Do:

• Provide clinical operational oversight and consultation for microbiology testing.
• Participate in clinical call responsibilities.
• Oversee and develop appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic tests.
• Advise clinicians and NIH physician scientists on the significance of diagnostic procedures.
• Manage the financial and technical resources of the laboratory.
• Coordinate work with the technical supervisors of the specialty sections.
• Ensure that all specialty laboratory staff members and postdoctoral clinical microbiology fellows are appropriately trained.
• Mentor and teach NIH and visiting infectious diseases fellows and microbiology fellows.
• Contribute to the comprehensive laboratory safety policies of the laboratory.
• Initiate independent and collaborative research projects in clinical microbiology and/or infectious diseases.
• Analyze, evaluate, and interpret scientific and clinical data.
• Keep abreast of scientific and clinical developments.

What You Will Need:

• Ph.D. in Microbiology or a related field along with postdoctoral training.
• Minimum of two (2) years of medical microbiology or clinical pathology experience.
• Experience translating scientific and clinical data into peer-reviewed publications.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Federal or DoD "public trust".
