Adjunct - Department of Teaching, Learning, & Behavioral Studies (Graduate and Undergraduate Special Education Courses)
Job OverviewSaint Joseph’s University’s Department of Teaching, Learning, & Behavioral Studies has an ongoing need for highly qualified adjunct/affiliate faculty to teach undergraduate and graduate Special Education courses each semester. Knowledge of Special Education in any of the following content areas is desired:
- High incidence disabilities (including specific learning disabilities and emotional/behavioral disorders)
- Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- Low incidence disabilities
- Transition planning
Courses may be in-person on campus or online. Professionals with experience in teaching online courses in higher education will be given preference.
Expertise Areas (for your resume/CV)- Special education law and policy
- Inclusive education
- Mental health
- Special education assessment
- Curriculum and instruction
- Provide support and guidance to students
- Instruct an assigned course, providing syllabi and other instructional materials
- Use the university learning management system to deliver instruction
- Report grades at midterm and final times
- Provide student learning outcomes data when asked
- Required Master’s Degree in Special Education or a closely related field
- Teacher certification with at least three years of full-time teaching experience in PK-12 schools or at the college level
- Preferred ABD or PhD in Special Education or a closely related field
- Willingness to teach on campus and flexibility in class scheduling
- May require standing for long periods of time
- May require talking for long periods of time
- May require carrying course materials
Courses may be fully online or in-person only.

Adjunct Employment DetailsAdjunct faculty are hired on a semester-to-semester basis with no guarantee of consecutive appointments. Compensation is commensurate with credentials and experience. Teaching responsibilities are assigned by the department chair.
