Adjunct - Department of Teaching, Learning, & Behavioral Studies (Graduate and Undergraduate Special Education Courses)

Job Overview

Saint Joseph’s University’s Department of Teaching, Learning, & Behavioral Studies has an ongoing need for highly qualified adjunct/affiliate faculty to teach undergraduate and graduate Special Education courses each semester. Knowledge of Special Education in any of the following content areas is desired:

  • High incidence disabilities (including specific learning disabilities and emotional/behavioral disorders)
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Low incidence disabilities
  • Transition planning

Courses may be in-person on campus or online. Professionals with experience in teaching online courses in higher education will be given preference.

  • Curriculum and instruction
Responsibilities
  • Provide support and guidance to students
  • Instruct an assigned course, providing syllabi and other instructional materials
  • Use the university learning management system to deliver instruction
  • Report grades at midterm and final times
  • Provide student learning outcomes data when asked
Qualifications
  • Required Master’s Degree in Special Education or a closely related field
  • Teacher certification with at least three years of full-time teaching experience in PK-12 schools or at the college level
  • Preferred ABD or PhD in Special Education or a closely related field
  • Willingness to teach on campus and flexibility in class scheduling
Physical and Other Requirements
  • May require standing for long periods of time
  • May require talking for long periods of time
  • May require carrying course materials
Modality

Courses may be fully online or in-person only.

Pay Transparency

Adjunct Employment Details

Adjunct faculty are hired on a semester-to-semester basis with no guarantee of consecutive appointments. Compensation is commensurate with credentials and experience. Teaching responsibilities are assigned by the department chair.
