Position Overview:

St. Matthew School, a vibrant PreK–8 Catholic elementary school committed to academic excellence and faith-based education, is seeking a dedicated, dynamic, and student-centered 4th Grade Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year.

The ideal candidate will serve as a self-contained Elementary Homeroom Teacher, providing instruction across all core subject areas. This role places a strong emphasis on differentiated instruction, small group learning, and MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) interventions to meet the diverse academic needs of upper elementary learners. The teacher will support students in developing independence, critical thinking, and strong academic habits while nurturing their spiritual and social-emotional growth.

Key Responsibilities:

Spiritual Leadership and Catholic Identity:
  • Foster a Christ-Centered Environment:
    Create a classroom rooted in faith through daily prayer, reflection, and integration of Catholic values.
  • Faith Formation:
    Lead students in prayer and guide them in developing a personal relationship with God.
  • Virtue-Based Management:
    Model and reinforce virtues to support student behavior and character development.
  • Ministry of Presence:
    Actively participate in school liturgies and faith-based activities.
Instruction and Curriculum:
  • Deliver standards-based instruction across all core subject areas (ELA, math, science, and social studies).
  • Utilize small group instruction as a core component of daily teaching to target specific student needs.
  • Implement MTSS frameworks to provide targeted academic interventions—particularly in reading and math.
  • Analyze student data regularly to group students flexibly and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Provide differentiated instruction to support a range of learners, including advanced students and those requiring intervention.
  • Strengthen reading comprehension, writing skills, and mathematical problem-solving through targeted and scaffolded instruction.
  • Use both formative and summative assessments to monitor progress and inform instruction.
  • Integrate Catholic values and cross-curricular connections into lessons.
Classroom Leadership:
  • Create a structured, engaging, and supportive classroom environment that promotes student independence and accountability.
  • Establish clear routines that allow for effective small group rotations and intervention blocks.
  • Support students’ executive functioning and organizational skills, preparing them for middle school expectations.
  • Promote positive behavior through consistent expectations and relationship-building.
  • Foster collaboration, critical thinking, and student ownership of learning.
Communication and

Collaboration:
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for families, maintaining consistent and professional communication.
  • Provide regular updates on student progress, including intervention plans and academic growth.
  • Collaborate closely with the learning support staff and administration to design and implement intervention strategies.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, data meetings, and professional development focused on instruction and intervention practices.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure alignment across grade levels and subject areas.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field required
  • Valid Pennsylvania Teaching Certification (Elementary K–6 or PK–4 preferred)
  • Experience teaching upper elementary grades (3–5) preferred
  • Commitment to Catholic education and student-centered teaching
