A vacancy exists for a Long-Term Substitute Mathematics Teacher to work within the Office of Student Services at the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit
. The Mathematics Teacher provides instruction to high school level students to develop the students' capabilities to the fullest. This classroom is located at the MCIU's Southeast Youth Development Center, 1212 Mokychic Rd., Schwenksville, PA 19473, on the grounds of the SCI Phoenix Correctional Facility. This position is available immediately.

Qualifications
  • Valid PA certification in Special Education (PK-12 or 7-12) preferred
  • Excellent communication, organization, problem-solving skills, and ability to use technology effectively
  • Ability to work as a member of a team, be courteous, and deal effectively with people in a frequently interrupted environment
  • Must be able to cope with the needs and behavior patterns of secondary students and withstand emotional stress
  • Ability to follow written and verbal directions, complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision, read, write, and perform simple computations
  • Ability to work independently and make work‑related decisions and exercise good judgment with student interaction
  • Original certificates of clearance from the State Police, Child Abuse Registry, and PDE FBI
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for education of students and implementation of IEPs
  • Work directly with general education, emotional support, and learning support secondary students
  • Implement academic instruction, career preparation/readiness support, and classroom management using best practices
  • Prepare lessons in accord with PA State Standards and student IEPs
  • Provide input to develop IEPs in conjunction with IEP teams
  • Provide input to develop transition plans within the IEP
  • Collect data and monitor student progress on IEP goals
  • Submit quarterly student progress reports to parent and district of residence administrator
  • Identify accommodations and specially designed instruction to ensure student success
  • Develop individual assessments and administer diagnostic tests to assess students' academic achievement
  • Track student credits towards graduation requirements
  • Work collaboratively with facility staff members to improve program effectiveness
  • Maintain up‑to‑date attendance records and child tracking data for each enrolled student
  • Assume additional duties as assigned by program administrator
Location

This classroom is located at the MCIU's Southeast Youth Development Center, 1212 Mokychic Rd., Schwenksville, PA 19473, on the grounds of the SCI Phoenix Correctional Facility.

Work Schedule

7.5 hours/day, 11 months (194 days/year). The position follows a modified 11‑month schedule which includes some Fridays off during the school year.

Salary

Bachelor's, Step 1: $53,997/year
Master's, Step 1: $65,007/year

* Placement on salary schedule based on experience and/or education beyond the Master's Degree.
