The Campus Minister / Spiritual Life Director role is vital to the mission of a Catholic High School, focusing on the spiritual well‑being of all students, faculty, and staff. The incumbent may also teach religion or any qualified academic subject, serve on the Catholic Identity Committee, and may be appointed chair of the Religion Department.

1. Spiritual Life
  • Aids and supports all faculty and staff members in their responsibility to reach the Catholic Faith. This person ensures that the school's Catholic identity remains foremost in the daily lives of faculty and staff.
  • Ensures that students foster a positive attitude of the Catholic Faith; such an attitude is outwardly shown by them.
  • Provides occasions throughout the school year when students are exposed to clergy and religious who are not on the school staff to strengthen the value of religious vocations.
  • Serves as the principal contact with the school community for vocation directors.
  • Is available to students.
  • This person establishes an appropriate professional rapport with students.
  • Guides students fully in keeping with the teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Actively works to foster and strengthen an active, daily prayer life within the school community. Such prayer life is outwardly shown by students, faculty, and staff.
  • Acts as a resource for religion‑related questions and projects among faculty, students, and staff.
2. Planning Management
  • Sets long‑ and short‑term goals for enhancing the school's Catholic identity and implements these goals in consultation with the Principal.
  • Works closely with members of the administration to complete tasks efficiently, keeping them informed and seeking their support.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the mission of the Catholic High School and communicates this mission to the community.
  • Adheres to all policies and procedures of the Diocese of Harrisburg and the High School.
  • Coordinates the purchase of liturgical and retreat supplies within the school's budgeted limits.
  • Displays a team spirit in working with faculty and staff.
  • Seeks appropriate opportunities for professional growth.
3. Liturgical
  • Ensures that Mass is celebrated on all Holy Days of Obligation, Ash Wednesday, Holy Thursday, and other important feasts during the school year when school is in session.
  • Plans and coordinates all liturgical events in consultation with the Principals and Pastors of Deanery parishes.
  • Maintains the calendar for all liturgical events at the start of the school year.
  • Ensures that all Masses and other liturgical services are prayerful, spiritually uplifting, and strengthen the faith of students.
  • Adheres to all laws and norms regarding the celebration of the Mass, sacraments, and liturgical practices of the Church.
  • Provides plans and coordination for all liturgical services, including celebrant, hymns, and worship space setup.
  • Fosters an atmosphere within the school community that recognizes the value and sacredness of Mass and sacraments.
  • Demonstrates a welcoming spirit to all non‑Catholic students and faculty without diminishing the school's Catholic identity.
  • Plans for Baccalaureate Mass and other graduation services.
4. Retreats
  • Plans and coordinates all school‑sponsored retreats for students.
  • Plans and coordinates all school‑sponsored retreats and in‑service days for faculty and staff.
  • Ensures that all retreats are prayerful, spiritually uplifting, and strengthen the faith of students.
  • Ensures that all presenters conduct their duties with impeccable character.
  • Ensures that all presentations and activities within retreats are strictly in keeping with the teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Provides notice of retreat opportunities in the region that are sponsored by other Church‑approved Catholic organizations.
5. Coordination Among School and Community
  • Develops and implements programs to educate and improve parental involvement in faith formation.
  • Develops and implements programs to improve the faith life of faculty and staff.
  • Coordinates a structured relationship with the guidance department to foster faith formation.
