The Respiratory Care Program Faculty / Clinical Coordinator is responsible for leading lecture classes and hands-on positioning labs and administering the student's clinical experience with the program's clinical sites. To assist in the learning process of students by understanding how students develop and learn, how they are motivated and the effects of peer interactions on learning; by knowing his/her discipline and how to help students know the discipline;

by learning what is new in the discipline, and what is newly available through technology and changing pedagogical methods; by thinking of teaching as helping others; by being a student of society and the worlds in which students live. This is a 12-month teaching faculty position with a 40 Instructor Credit Hour (ICH) workload that includes both teaching and clinical coordination responsibilities.

For accreditation purposes, this position fulfills the role of Director of Clinical Education, as defined by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC). This position is based in Bethlehem, PA.

Faculty Responsibilities:

• Working with students and other faculty to give instruction in accordance with the stated philosophy and objectives of the Respiratory Care Program and the College Catalog
• Planning the instructional offerings
• Facilitating the instructional process
• Participating in all regularly scheduled meetings of the school/department, professional staff and program meetings (clinical instructor and advisory board)
• Preparing preliminary budget materials for submission to the appropriate Dean
• Implementing special responsibilities

Clinical Coordination Responsibilities:

• Direct and administer the clinical education component of the Respiratory Care Program in accordance with CoARC accreditation standards
• Coordinate student clinical placements and schedules in collaboration with the Program Director and clinical affiliates to ensure integration of didactic, laboratory, and clinical education
• Maintain frequent, regular, and consistent communication with students, faculty, preceptors, and clinical affiliates through routine site visits and other appropriate methods
• Collaborate with the Program Director to develop and maintain clinical partnerships and affiliation agreements; recruit, orient, mentor, and support preceptors; evaluate student clinical performance; and maintain required records and documentation
• Provide leadership for the continuous assessment and improvement of the clinical education program and support accreditation activities to ensure compliance with CoARC standards
• Collaborate with the Program Director and College personnel to support student recruitment, outreach, and retention efforts
• Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Program Director

Organizational Relationships:

• Be responsible to the appropriate academic school dean for performance of assigned responsibilities
• Be responsible to the program director when said program has an assigned administrator filling that position
• Work in close concert with program coordinators when appropriate
• Work cooperatively with members of the faculty and administrative team
• Relate role to College goals and mission attainment

Performance Standards:
Performance in this position is considered satisfactory in accordance with evaluation procedures specified in the current faculty bargaining unit negotiated agreement and covers teaching, college service, and professional growth.

Qualifications:

• Education:
  
  Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution; master's degree preferred
• Experience:
  
  current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential and Pennsylvania Respiratory Care license; minimum of four years of experience as a RRT, including at least two years in clinical respiratory care; minimum of two years of teaching experience in a CoARC-accredited respiratory care program or experience as a clinical instructor/preceptor; completion of the CoARC Key Personnel Training Program
