Job Overview
Plant Control Operator in Training – on‑site at the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station in Berwick, Pennsylvania. The role receives nuclear training leading to an NRC Reactor Operator License. The incumbent will operate or direct nuclear systems, turbine‑generator systems, plant electrical distribution, and auxiliary systems.
Responsibilities- Participate in classroom training: lectures, examinations, and training evolutions.
- Perform on‑the‑job training: operate control room and in‑plant duties, including equipment and system operations, tests per procedures, and monitoring reactor and station equipment.
- Initiate reactor shutdowns or engineering safety features when safety is compromised.
- Act as System Operating Representative for the Energy Control Process.
- Prepare clearances for maintenance/outages; transmit and receive work requests.
- Command remote‑controlled equipment and maintain operation in remote‑manual mode.
- Synchronize generators and lines; control station generating equipment and power supply.
- When assigned, conduct refueling and fuel handling activities, including fuel bundle movement, channel inspection, and inventory.
- Prepare and direct alignment of leak rate, hydrostatic, and other test procedures.
- Execute procedure reviews, initiate and process changes, and create new procedures where needed.
- Maintain knowledge of plans, procedures, radiological health and safety programs, industrial safety programs, controlled access, and security procedures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least one of the following experience criteria:
- 6 months as qualified non‑licensed operator at Susquehanna Steam Electric Station
- 12 months as qualified non‑licensed operator at a comparable BWR/PWR facility
- 18 months as qualified non‑licensed operator at a non‑comparable commercial power reactor facility
- 6 months as active‑licensed reactor operator at a comparable facility
- 12 months as active‑licensed reactor operator at a non‑comparable facility
- 18 months in a position equivalent to reactor operator at a military reactor
- 27 months at a non‑nuclear facility (petrochemical and similar process plants may substitute)
- Valid driver’s license.
- Pass company‑provided physical and mental examinations per 10 CFR 55.11(a)(1) and (a)(2).
- Meet ANSI/ANS‑3.1 2014 and REG Guide 1.8 requirements.
