Deputy Director​/Chief Engineer

Department Public Works/Engineering Type of Position Full-time Salary/Pay Rate $97,000 - $128,000 annual based on experience Final date to receive applications ongoing MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Civil Engineering, along with extensive knowledge of civil engineering principles and public works project execution and demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

REQUIREMENTS Must pass a criminal background investigation, pre-employment medical exam, and drug test. NATURE OF WORK PERFORMED Under the direct supervision of the Director of Public Works, the Deputy Director/Chief Engineer oversees the Engineering Bureau and assists with the overall supervision and administration of the Public Works Department. This position applies advanced civil engineering knowledge to manage and direct all functions of the Engineering Bureau.

The role provides leadership, guidance, and supervision to Engineering staff and supports Supervisors across all Public Works Bureaus to ensure effective coordination and execution of departmental operations and capital projects.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

* - Assigns and oversees work and projects within the Department of Public Works.
* - Provides leadership, training, and supervision across the Engineering - Bureau and supports other Public Works Bureaus as needed.
* - Establishes design and construction criteria for public works capital projects.
* - Develops and improves procedures for the execution of work within the Engineering Bureau.
* - Reviews subdivision and site development activities for compliance and engineering standards.
* - Investigates public inquiries and provides timely and professional responses.
* - Provides engineering services and technical support to other City departments and bureaus.
* - Coordinates and reviews design work performed by engineering consultants.
* - Reviews specifications, materials, and bid documents; evaluates bids and provides recommendations for contract awards.
* - Conducts and/or reviews engineering studies and surveys as required.
* - Manages Engineering projects as assigned.
* - Maintains strong working relationships with City stakeholders and regional partners.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

* - Ability to plan projects and prepare designs, estimates, and specifications.
* - Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
* - Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
* - Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
* - Sound professional judgment and considerable engineering experience.
* - Significant experience with operating and capital budgets.
