Responsibilities

  • Determine the best alternate part based on the existing part spec and how the part is used in circuit.
  • Understand if any PCB changes may be needed to apply the suggested alternate part.
  • Get quotations on the alternate parts from appropriate suppliers
  • Consult with engineering and propose to quality what tests need to be done to qualify the alternate part and PCB change (if needed).
  • Electrical testing
  • Perform the agreed upon tests, delegating some of the testing to other technicians or to the lab.
  • Adhere to the Lutron safety protocols during these tests.
  • Communicate test results
  • Review agreed upon tests and final results with engineering and quality. Propose next steps.
  • Propose the cutover plan and include dates for alpha, beta’s, or a gamma burst.
  • Operations implementation
  • Work with our operations team to make final changes to our product bill of materials.
  • Ensure our plants are informed of the change.
  • Get feedback from our plants on how the production runs are going after implementation.
Qualifications Education
  • 4-year degree in Electrical Engineering.
Experience
  • 1-3+ years experience in new product design work or alternate part qualification.
Skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft tools like Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiar with measurement equipment like multi-meters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, loads.
  • Ability to read schematics and get a general understanding of how a circuit works.
Nice to have
  • Experience working with higher voltage circuits (120 – 277V) that are used to control lighting loads.
  • General understanding of Altium (a schematic and PCB design tool).
  • Basic software skills in any language (C#, Visual Basic, Python)
  • Experience working in manufacturing, understanding the implications of changes that are made to consumer products
