Metrology Engineer – Reliability & Maintenance Optimization

EFOR is looking for a Metrology Engineer to join a major Reliability, Maintenance, Calibration & Instrumentation improvement program at a leading pharmaceutical manufacturing site in Pennsylvania.
This is not a traditional calibration execution role
.
We are looking for an engineer who can challenge the status quo, identify inefficiencies, and help transform the site's approach to metrology and calibration
.
- Review current calibration strategies, processes, and standards
- Identify opportunities to simplify and optimize calibration activities
- Challenge existing ways of working and help redesign calibration processes & governance
- Analyze calibration intervals, tolerances, instrument criticality, failures, and OOT events
- Support the implementation of risk-based calibration strategies
- Optimize calibration plans, preventive maintenance, job plans, and instrument master data
- Drive Continuous Improvement initiatives while maintaining GMP compliance and equipment reliability
- Support root cause analysis, investigations, deviations, and CAPAs
- Work closely with Reliability, Maintenance, Engineering, Instrumentation, Quality, Operations, and CMMS teams
- Support instrument lifecycle, obsolescence, and replacement strategies
- Ensure calibration documentation and technical rationale are GMP-compliant and inspection-ready
We are looking for a Metrology / Calibration / Instrumentation Engineer with experience in a regulated manufacturing environment and, most importantly, a strong Continuous Improvement mindset
.
- Questions existing practices rather than simply following them
- Identifies gaps, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement
- Uses data and technical knowledge to make recommendations
- Connects metrology, reliability, maintenance, compliance, and CMMS data
- Translates technical analysis into practical improvements
- Works effectively with both technical teams and site leadership
- Experience in Metrology, Calibration, Instrumentation, or Maintenance Engineering
- Experience in a GMP pharmaceutical, biotech, vaccine, or other regulated manufacturing environment
- Strong knowledge of process instrumentation: temperature, pressure, flow, level, weighing, analytical, and utility instruments
- Experience analyzing calibration history, failures, OOT events, and instrument performance
- Familiarity with CMMS / EAM or calibration management systems
- Understanding of GMP, change control, deviation management, and data integrity
- Experience with SAP PM, Maximo, Blue Mountain RAM, Pro Cal, Beamex, Kneat
, or similar systems is a plus. - Experience with risk-based calibration, calibration interval optimization, reliability-centered maintenance, or instrument lifecycle management is highly valued.
