The Environmental Trainee position with the Department of Environmental Protection is an exciting way to begin your career in environmental work. Descriptionof Work
In this 12‑month training position, you will support the region by learning to conduct inspections, monitor compliance, and respond to air quality concerns. The position helps ensure that air pollution issues are addressed quickly and effectively.
- Compliance Checks:
Conduct inspections of air pollution sources and review records to assess compliance with permits and regulations - Enforcement Support:
Investigate complaints, document violations, and assist in preparing enforcement actions - Data Entry:
Input inspection results, emissions information, and related records into database systems - Sampling
Activities:
Collect air, fuel, and material samples to support testing and compliance evaluations - Complaint Response:
Investigate public air pollution complaints and recommend steps to resolve identified issues - Program Participation:
Assist with asbestos program inspections, reporting, and certification tasks
- Full‑time employment
- Work hours:
8:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday–Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch - Telework:
Opportunity to telework part‑time, up to 3 days per week (subject to change) - Salary:
Starting annual salary of $51,971.00 (before taxes)
- Four years of technical experience in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field; or
- A bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field; or
- Equivalently combined experience and training.
- Active motor vehicle license.
- Must meet Pennsylvania residency requirement.
- Must be able to perform essential job functions.
