About the Role
The Department of Human Services (DHS), Washington County Assistance Office (CAO) seeks motivated individuals to join our team as Income Maintenance Caseworkers. In this role, you reinforce community support by guiding individuals and families through essential benefit programs.
Key Responsibilities- Eligibility Review: Evaluate applications and determine eligibility for programs such as financial assistance, Medicaid, SNAP, LIHEAP, Nursing Home Care, and Waivers.
- Customer Interviews: Conduct phone and in‑person interviews to gather information and understand customer circumstances.
- Policy Application: Interpret and apply state and federal regulations to ensure accurate case decisions.
- Data Entry: Input information into automated systems and perform manual calculations for case processing.
- Case Documentation: Write clear and thorough case comments to record changes and document decisions.
- Deadline Management: Complete all assigned work within required time frames and established procedures.
- Full‑time, 37.5 hours per week
- Hours:
8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday‑Friday, with a 60‑minute lunch (schedule may vary by operational needs). - Overtime and travel as needed.

Part‑time telework may be available; eligibility depends on high‑speed internet and approved location within Pennsylvania. - Starting annual salary: $51,971.00 (before taxes).
- Four years of experience in interviewing or data analysis; OR a bachelor’s degree; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree is acceptable.
- Must meet the PA residency requirement.
- Hiring preference may be given to candidates who live within Washington County; otherwise, candidates from other counties may be considered.
- Must be able to perform essential job functions.
- Conditional offer will require submission of criminal history reports and background investigation (includes federal and state checks).
