A part time (per diem) position provides support within the Ranger Unit and reports directly to Chief Ranger and/or Park Ranger II.
Responsibilities include public relations, law enforcement, safety and security duties. Assist with park special events and museums.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Must be in good physical condition and of a psychological state. Must possess a valid driver’s license. This is a condition of employment and throughout employment.
- Establish and maintain cooperative and cordial relations with the general public, civic, private agencies, and local law enforcement officials
- Enforce park ordinances, rules and regulations, other pertinent laws, safety and security requirements, serve and protect general public; preserving law and order within York County Parks and designated County of York property.
- Patrol park grounds in motorized vehicles, bikes and on foot; creating an omni-presence to deter criminal and/or harmful activity within the parks.
- Perform safety and security inspections of park property, recognizing and implementing preventative or corrective measures and informing the proper authorities as to the potential hazards to the general public.
- Provide first aid, AED and CPR, as certified.
- Provide safety, security and traffic control at park related functions and special events and supervise assigned volunteers as needed.
- Deliver daily mail, department receipts and other correspondence or supplies to the appropriate areas.
- Participate in training as instructed
- Must be knowledgeable and understand the operation of the York County Emergency Management radio system and follow proper procedures and guidelines in its use.
- Present park pavilion surveys to pavilion renters and post pavilions as required.
- If desire to carry a duty weapon, you must successfully complete certifications and qualifications as per firearm policy (S.O.P. #18 and County of York ordinance #2003-11.
- Perform assigned Ranger details as instructed.
Requirements are representative of minimum experience, training, knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Must possess a high school diploma or GED within one year of employment.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Must be certified in basic first aid, CPR and AED.
- References are required.
- Must be knowledgeable in general equipment (copies, fax, computers, radios, and cellphones).
Park Ranger I may obtain at his/her own expense certification under the Lethal Weapons ACT 235 of PA to carry a firearm while in the performance of his/her duty on York County Park property. If ACT 235 certified, Park Ranger I must qualify annually with handgun and shotgun as determined by Firearm Instructor. (refer to S.O.P. #18 – Firearm Policy County of York Ordinance #2003-11)
