The Institute for Behavior Change is a non-profit foundation that recruits, trains, deploys and monitors staff who deliver Intensive Behavioral Health Services (IBHS) to children diagnosed with mental health disorders. We were founded in 1997 and continue to supply highly trained staff to leading IBHS agencies throughout Delaware, Montgomery, and Bucks Counties. We have immediate work for several new BCBAs and Behavior Consultants (licensed and unlicensed) and can assign cases to you that will provide optimally challenging and rewarding professional experiences while minimizing your travel time.

Role

of a BHT

The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) implements behavioral health services to children and adolescents with mental health diagnoses as outlined in their individualized treatment plan. The main goals of the BHT provider are to follow the treatment plan, help the child/adolescent eliminate inappropriate behavior, provide emotional support to the child, and assist those responsible for the child in fostering greater independence and socially responsible behavior.

The BHT provider will stand or sit for extended periods of time in the vicinity of an assigned child and will encourage the child's social integration and participation in group or other assigned activities. The BHT will legibly and contemporaneously record, in English, data regarding the behavior and progress of the child, the involvement of the child's caretakers, and report unusual incidents as required by relevant laws, policies and procedures.

BHT providers are expected to:

Responsibilities
  • Implement and follow the child’s individualized treatment plan
  • Encourage participation in structured, age‑appropriate activities and support the development of emotional regulation, attention, planning, and social interaction skills
  • Promote positive interactions with peers and family members while discouraging disruptive or unsafe behaviors using positive reinforcement and redirection
  • Provide immediate, therapeutic responses to maladaptive behaviors using minimally restrictive prompts and emotional support
  • Maintain safety at all times
  • Remain physically able to pursue a child who leaves an assigned area and dress appropriately to meet this requirement
  • Participate in required training and attend documented supervision sessions at least twice monthly
  • Maintain professional, ethical behavior and appropriate boundaries with clients, families, coworkers, supervisors, and other professionals (e.g., teachers)
  • Foster a team‑based, respectful approach when working with supervisors, administration, and fellow employees
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience providing behavioral health services and/or Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
  • Ability to maintain supervision hours
  • Must meet any additional qualifications required by regulatory agencies or the employer.
