Responsibilities- Provide a positive patient experience to patients and families.
- Demonstrate strong communication and customer service skills while registering patients.
- Accurately search for and select the correct patient.
- Gather complete and accurate demographic and insurance information from patients and families.
- Identify uninsured patients for referral to Medical Assistance/Charity Care evaluation.
- Retrieve orders and confirm medical necessity; answer phones for outpatient visits.
- Collect worker’s compensation or auto insurance information from accident patients, gather patient out‑of‑pocket liability/copays, verify insurance, and confirm referrals and authorizations are on file, if required.
- Interact with co‑workers, visitors, and other staff in accordance with Jefferson values.
- Request photo insurance cards, scan copies, and record complete demographic and insurance information.
- Enter orders and confirm medical necessity for outpatient visits, if appropriate.
- Interview patients to complete the Medicare Secondary Payer (MSPQ) questionnaire for all Medicare patients.
- Use RTE (Real Time Eligibility), Phreesia, or payer websites to verify insurance coverage and benefits, including patient out‑of‑pocket liability.
- Ensure proper referral and authorizations are on file as needed.
- Complete all activities with adherence to departmental and institutional protocols, assuring regulatory and compliance requirements are met.
- Achieve individual and team performance metrics.
- Collect out‑of‑pocket liability from patients at the time of service.
- Rotate assignment to all points of service areas within Patient Access (Outpatient Registration and Emergency Department).
- High School Diploma or GED; associate’s degree in healthcare or business administration preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in an emergency department, hospital, physician practice, or related healthcare environment with customer service focus.
- Prior registration experience in an emergency department preferred.
- Proficiency with computer and Microsoft Office; familiarity with healthcare EHR applications (e.g., EPIC, Cerner).
- Knowledge of medical terminology and/or third‑party insurance coverage, including managed care plans.
- Strong verbal and written communication and customer service skills.
- Meticulous attention to detail.
- Current Jefferson Seamless Access Representatives with a minimum of 1 year of experience will be considered as meeting the experience requirement.
Work Shift:
Weekend Night (United States of America) – Regular Employee at Albert Einstein Medical Center. Primary location: 5501 Old York Road, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
