Clinical Exercise Physiologist

Job Summary

Supervises the exercise and pharmacologic stress testing in the exercise labs at the primary location and outreach sites, assessing the cardiovascular and metabolic effects of exercise on healthy, cardiac, or high‑risk outpatients and inpatients. Determines appropriate tests and test termination, and implements and supervises the physical exercise program of patients in the outpatient cardiac rehabilitation program.

• Schedules patients for entry into the cardiac rehabilitation program.
• Assists with orientation, development of individualized goals, and plan of care for new patients, including calculation of exercise prescription and home exercise programs based on stress test results.
• Supervises patients during outpatient exercise sessions and monitors for inappropriate responses.
• Provides individualized and group patient education in areas of expertise.
• Performs warm‑up and cool‑down exercises with patients.
• Determines patient suitability for testing based on medical history, chart review, and resting EKG.
• Contacts referring cardiologists or providers for more suitable tests.
• Explains test procedures to patients and answers questions.
• Monitors patient condition during testing, supervising all exercise, pharmacologic, and metabolic stress tests.
• Decides when to terminate testing or exercise sessions per exercise lab guidelines.
• Provides preliminary reports for resting and exercise EKGs, blood pressure response, symptoms, and arrhythmias.
• Notifies appropriate personnel for seriously abnormal test results.
• Consults with the exercise lab medical director or designated clinician for clinical questions as needed.
• Initiates emergency procedures as necessary in accordance with policies.
• Coordinates with area programs to enroll patients into a Cardiac Rehab program.
• Provides formal lectures on exercise testing, cardiac rehab, and related topics for physicians, technical staff, and students.

Monday through Friday, 7:30am – 4:00pm.

• Master's Degree – Required.
• Master's Degree in Exercise Science – Preferred.

• Minimum of 2 years of related work experience – Preferred.

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification – American Heart Association (AHA).
• Basic Life Support Certification.
• Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist within 2 years – American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).
