Position Overview

The State Lead is a senior field leadership role responsible for implementing and managing Battleground Alliance’s field program across priority congressional districts within an assigned state. Reporting to the National Deputy Director for Districts, State Leads drive local strategy, coalition coordination, and day-to-day field execution — translating national program goals into effective, locally grounded campaigns. This role requires strong political instincts, deep relationship-building skills, and the ability to manage complex, multi-district operations in fast-paced environments.

State Leads are expected to be deeply embedded in their assigned state.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, implementation, and management of the state-level field program in alignment with national strategy
  • Translate national program goals into executable district plans tailored to local dynamics
  • Serve as the primary point of accountability for state program performance, timelines, and deliverables
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with coalition partners, community organizations, and stakeholders across the state
  • Convene and lead coalition meetings, planning tables, and work sessions to ensure alignment and shared accountability
  • Manage field coordination across districts, including turf planning, calendars, and partner coordination
  • Supervise and support district-based field staff and organizers
  • Partner with the data team on reporting, targeting, and field tool implementation
  • Elevate state-level insights and partner feedback to national leadership
  • Build durable local infrastructure that sustains long-term organizing
Required Qualifications
  • 5–7 years of field organizing or campaign leadership experience, including at least three complete campaign cycles
  • Demonstrated experience managing multi-district or statewide field programs and coalitions
  • Proficiency with NGP VAN and field reporting structures
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to build trust and credibility locally
  • Ability to manage staff, facilitate planning sessions, and work within a national field structure
  • Willingness to travel extensively and work nights and weekends as campaign timelines require
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience organizing in assigned state with existing relationships across progressive infrastructure, labor, and community organizations
Compensation & Location

$8,000–$10,000/month, commensurate with experience and regional cost of living. Comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, cell phone stipend, and 401(k). State-based with regular in-person work required. Eligible states:
