Overview

The Corrections Utility Plant Operator at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Chester plays a key role in keeping essential systems running smoothly. This position allows you to support a safe and reliable environment through skilled equipment operation. You will help maintain critical systems that keep the facility functioning each day.
Responsibilities- Operate and maintain boilers under normal and emergency conditions.
- Inspect and service pumps, fans, and other auxiliary systems.
- Test boiler water chemistry and manage treatment supplies.
- Keep the plant area clean and complete daily inventories.
- Report concerns to supervisors and complete required paperwork.
- Full‑time employment, 40 hours per week.
- Work hours are 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM, Sunday – Thursday.
- This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

You will not have the option to telework in this position. - Salary:
Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $47,925.00 (before taxes). However, a higher salary may be established in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
- Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a steam or hot water generating plant, or a steam and electric generating plant; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
- You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
