Manual Machinist
- Lathes and Mills

Bethlehem, PA

6:30 am to 3:00 pm Monday to Friday

$20 to $26 per hour

Job Summary

We are seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Manual Machinist with at least 1 year of hands-on experience operating manual lathes, mills, or both. In this role, you will read blueprints, set up equipment, select tooling, and machine precise metallic or plastic components to exact specifications. This is a great opportunity for an early-career machinist looking to build their skills in a custom, low-volume, or repair shop environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up and safely operate manual lathes, vertical/horizontal manual milling machines
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, shop prints, standard tolerances.
  • Select appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, speeds, and feeds based on the material (e.g., steel or brass).
  • Measure finished parts using precision tools including micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, bore gauges, and height gauges.
  • Perform basic preventative maintenance on machinery, keep work area clean and organized and monitor coolant/lubricants.
  • Identify potential defects early, rework or scrap parts when necessary, and maintain production records.
Required Qualifications
  • 1+ years of practical manual machining experience operating lathes and/or manual mills.
  • Strong foundation in shop math, basic geometry, and standard/metric conversions.
  • Proficiency with basic measurement instruments (micrometers, calipers, gauges).
  • Solid understanding of machine shop safety protocols, proper PPE usage, and lock-out/tag-out procedures.
  • Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in a typical shop environment.
  • Formal vocational training, trade school certificate, or completed apprenticeship in machining.
