Job Details:
Full time, 40 hours/week nights.

Responsibilities
  • With a commitment to patient- and family-centered care, the assistant nurse manager works with the nurse manager and provides oversight for patient care and nursing services on their assigned unit and shift.
  • They promote quality evidence-based care and patient satisfaction in a fiscally responsive manner.
  • The assistant nurse manager collaborates with the nurse manager in assessment and planning for nursing care.
  • She/he assists in leading the daily operations of the unit.
  • Acts as a resource, lead, and clinical role model for the patient care team.
  • Advances and oversees patient care standards of the unit for the designated shift.
  • Facilitates and coordinates patient care delivery and flow through the continuum of care.
  • She/he carries out the responsibilities of the nurse manager in her/his absence with guidance from the Administrative Director.
  • The Assistant Nurse Manager participates in hiring and evaluation of staff.
  • The Assistant Nurse Manager collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to ensure effective operations of the nursing unit.
  • She/he supports nursing professional development, Magnet, and Shared Governance through participation in, and mentoring of colleagues, on councils and the Clinical Ladder program.
Education
  • Required:

    Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
  • Preferred:
    Master’s Degree in Nursing.
Experience
  • Required:

    2 years acute care experience.
  • Preferred: 1 year experience in a similar or ‘like’ unit, demonstrating leadership and management potential.

Skills and Abilities
  • Effective communication – Understanding of communication concepts, tools, and techniques; ability to transmit, receive, and interpret information accurately; use partnership language with patients and families.
  • Patient-and family-centered practice – Knowledge of how to convey respect and collaborate with each patient, family and/or designated care partner.
  • Cultural awareness – Knowledge of diverse backgrounds and ability to convey respect and connect effectively.
  • Care coordination – Knowledge of multidisciplinary services; ability to integrate treatments for optimal care.
  • Patient safety – Knowledge of patient risks; ability to reduce risks.
  • Medication administration and prescription – Knowledge of medications and ability to administer and prescribe outside hospital.
  • Discharge planning – Knowledge of post-discharge needs; ability to plan for discharge and arrange follow-up care.
  • Assessment and diagnosis – Knowledge of assessment tools and nursing diagnosis; ability to analyze symptoms.
  • Health information documentation – Knowledge of documentation methods; ability to record medical histories, vital signs, medications, diagnoses, treatment plans, procedures, and test results.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Required:

    ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, American Heart Association)
  • Required:

    PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support, American Heart Association)
  • Required:

    BLS (Basic Life Support, American Heart Association)
  • Required:

    RN – Licensed Registered Nurse; PA – State of Pennsylvania
