Leadership

The Resident Care Manager (RCM) is responsible for providing operational and clinical leadership for a multidisciplinary team within a Post Acute Rehabilitation and Palliative Care unit. Reporting to the Site Administrator hael's Health Centre, the RCM ensures the delivery of safe, high-quality, person-centered care while fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and professional practice. The RCM provides day-to-day leadership, coaching, and support to nursing and interdisciplinary staff, promoting excellence in rehabilitation and palliative care.

Working closely with physicians and allied health professionals, the RCM ensures evidence-informed care, efficient resource utilization, quality improvement, and positive patient and family experiences. This role is accountable for staffing, clinical operations, performance management, quality initiatives, and supporting staff development while promoting Covenant Health's Mission, Vision, and Values. Travel is required and may include the use of a personal vehicle.

A standard driver's abstract may also be required for use of corporate lease vehicles.

Description

The Resident Care Manager (RCM) demonstrates the Mission, Vision and Values in daily interactions with staff/ patients/residents/families. In collaboration with Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE), provides coaching, mentoring and clinical support around complex clinical decision making. The RCM performs direct supervisory role of unionized staff within the unit(s)/departments and leads performance issue discussion, initiating disciplinary process when required; supports unit and/or organizational change, provides opportunities and encourages staff to discuss issues affecting unit(s);

leads or contributes in the establishment of program performance expectations and identifies unit specific goals; leads or participates in the development of clinical standards and ensures adherence to established clinical standards and required organizational practices; liaises with other hospital units and departments on issues relating to unit operations and fosters the building of effective teams; strong morale and open communication.

The RCM oversees recruitment, ability management, addresses attendance issues, completes annual performance appraisals and works in a professional manner with union representatives. This position is non-unionized.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor of Nursing (BN/BScN) or a bachelor's degree in a related health discipline. An equivalent combination of education and relevant leadership experience may be considered. Current registration and practice permit with the applicable Alberta nursing regulatory body. Current Heart & Stroke Foundation Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Minimum three (3) years of recent acute care, rehabilitation, continuing care, palliative care, or medicine nursing experience.

Demonstrated leadership experience, including Charge Nurse or formal supervisory responsibilities. Demonstrated knowledge of patient safety principles, quality improvement methodologies, clinical best practices, and healthcare standards. Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and decision‑making skills. Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills. Demonstrated ability to lead interdisciplinary teams and foster collaborative working relationships. Proficiency with electronic health records (Connect Care/EPIC experience considered an asset) and Microsoft Office applications.

Additional

Required Qualifications

Two (2) years of progressive healthcare management or leadership experience. Recent leadership experience in Post Acute Rehabilitation, Geriatric Rehabilitation, Continuing Care, Palliative Care, Medicine, or Complex Care.

Preferred Qualifications

Formal leadership education or certification (e.g., LEADS, healthcare leadership certificate, management coursework, or equivalent). Experience supporting interdisciplinary rehabilitation programs, discharge planning, and transitions in care. Proven ability to coach, mentor, and develop high‑performing teams while fostering staff engagement and accountability. Certification in palliative care, gerontology, rehabilitation nursing, or healthcare leadership is considered an asset.
