Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Specialist
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Maintaining and writing new global non-destructive testing (NDT) procedures. Supporting Flowserve sites with NDT questions and answering external customer questions requiring NDT expertise. Ensuring compliance with industry standards, customer specifications, and Flowserve's quality requirements.
Primary Responsibilities
- Maintaining and writing global NDT procedures, acceptance criteria, and techniques.
- Standardizing high-quality NDT operations across Flowserve's various manufacturing locations.
- Ensuring compliance with industry standards, codes, regulations, and customer specifications governing NDT processes and procedures.
- Collaborating with manufacturing, engineering, and quality control teams to resolve any NDT-related issues or discrepancies identified and escalated to the GES Materials team.
- Providing training and guidance to personnel involved in NDT activities to enhance their skills, knowledge, and proficiency in NDT techniques and procedures.
- Operating as the global NDT Certification Authority.
- Staying abreast of industry developments, advancements in NDT technology, and changes in regulatory requirements related to NDT practices.
- Adhering to all safety protocols, procedures, and regulations governing NDT operations to ensure the safety of personnel, equipment, and the work environment.
- Promoting a culture of safety awareness, hazard identification, and risk mitigation across the organization.
- Supporting escalated vendor NDT quality concerns that require a subject matter expert to review.
- Supporting escalated customer NDT quality concerns that require a subject matter expert to review.
Secondary Responsibilities
- Operating as a support function to NDT personnel conducting inspections of incoming materials, fabricated components, and finished products to verify conformity to engineering drawings, specifications, and quality requirements.
- Operating as a support function to NDT personnel performing various NDT techniques, such as ultrasonic testing (UT), magnetic particle testing (MT), dye penetrant testing (PT), radiographic testing (RT), and visual inspection (VT), to detect and evaluate defects, flaws, or abnormalities in materials and components.
- Operating as a support function to NDT personnel interpreting NDT results and data to determine the presence, size, location, and severity of defects, and make recommendations for further evaluation or corrective action as needed.
- Supporting the enterprise when vendor NDT procedure reviews are required by an NDT Level III.
- Supporting the quality audit team on vendor NDT program reviews where subject matter expertise or documentation review is requested.
Required Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities
- Minimum certification of Level III in the NDT methods of radiographic testing (RT) and ultrasonic testing (UT). (e.g., ASNT Level III certification)
- Minimum certification of Level III in 2 of the 3 following NDT methods (Magnetic particle testing (MT), dye penetrant testing (PT), and visual inspection (VT) with willingness to move up to Level III in the method not already certified at Level III. (e.g., ASNT Level III certification).
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in NDT inspection, quality assurance, or related field, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail with the ability to accurately evaluate and interpret NDT results.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate technical information clearly and concisely.
Preferred Experience /
Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, materials science, or a related field (preferred)
- Nuclear industry experience
- NDE-1 Certification
