Position

South Mountain Restoration Center with the Department of Human Services (DHS) is seeking a dedicated Automotive Mechanic to support the reliable operation of our vehicles and equipment. This role offers the chance to keep an essential fleet running smoothly while supporting a facility that cares for some of our most vulnerable citizens. Description

of Work
  • Major Repairs:
    Perform repairs on cars, trucks, and equipment ranging from routine fixes to involved mechanical jobs.
  • State Inspections:
    Inspect vehicles to meet all state requirements.
  • System Overhauls:
    Repair engines, transmissions, brakes, clutches, and related automotive systems.
  • Record Keeping:
    Maintain detailed service records for each vehicle.
  • Equipment Support:
    Repair emergency generators, air compressors, and other facility equipment.
  • Fuel Dispensing:
    Dispense gasoline, diesel fuel, and oil for state owned equipment.

Work Schedule and Additional Information
  • Full‑time employment.
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday‑Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch.
  • Telework:
    This position does not allow telework.
  • Salary:
    In some cases, the starting salary may be non‑negotiable.

Qualifications

Required Experience, Training & Eligibility

  • Four years of experience in the automotive mechanic trade; or completion of an approved apprenticeship; or any combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Special Requirements

  • Must possess a current driver’s license that is not under suspension.
  • Must possess a valid Class 1 Inspection Mechanic certificate or equivalent that allows inspection for Class 1 vehicles.

Other Requirements

  • Must meet the PA residency requirement.

  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including PA State Police and FBI clearance.
