THE POSITION
Are you searching for a rewarding role where you can share your knowledge and experience in painting trades work through the vocational training of inmates at a state correctional facility? The Department of Corrections, State Correctional Institution at Huntingdon is seeking a creative and highly motivated painter who enjoys teaching to join our team as a Corrections Painting Trade Instructor.
DESCRIPTION OF WORKAs a Painting Trade Instructor you will provide on‑job training and shop instruction of inmates in the painting trade at your assigned institutions.
Responsibilities include:
- Teaching inmates the practices, methods, and procedures of the painting trade.
- Demonstrating and explaining the use of materials and tools for hanging wallpaper and vinyl wall coverings.
- Providing instruction on coating, inspecting, repairing, and maintaining walls, ceilings, floors, roofs, fences, cabinets, furniture, metal work, fixtures, signs, and woodwork.
- Supervising, securing, and maintaining custody of inmates assigned to work details.
- Full‑time employment, 40 hours per week.
- Work hours:
7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday – Friday. - Eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
- Telework:
Not an option. - Starting salary may be non‑negotiable in some cases.
- Four years of experience in mixing and applying paint, stain, and other finishes to a variety of building surfaces; or
- Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the painting trade; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes one year of journey‑level work in the painting trade.
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
- You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
