POSITION
The Department of Corrections is seeking a Corrections Electrical Trade Instructor to teach inmates at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) in Pine Grove. The instructor will provide journeyman‑level training in electrical installation, maintenance, and repair.
DESCRIPTION OF WORKThe instructor will deliver instructional sessions, demonstrations, and hands‑on training.
Responsibilities include:
- Teaching electrical trade skills to inmates, covering low and high voltage systems, lighting, power outlets, conduit, underground circuits, switch boxes, breaker panels, switch gear, transformers, motors, appliances, and generators.
- Planning and assigning instructional tasks and work assignments to inmates.
- Providing guidance, supervision, and feedback to ensure work meets professional standards.
- Using textbooks and practical demonstrations to reinforce learning.
- Full‑time employment, 40‑hour work week.
- Work hours:
7:00 AM – 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday. - No telework options.
- Starting annual salary for new employees: $51,868.00 (before taxes).
- Eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
- Five years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical wiring, fixtures, and equipment in buildings; or
- Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the electrical trade; or
- Equivalent combination of experience and training, including at least one year of journeyman‑level electrical trade work.
- Successful completion of basic training at Elizabethtown, PA.
- Ability to perform essential job functions.
- Pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
- Meet Pennsylvania residency requirements.
