The Position

The Department of General Services is searching for Electricians to help ensure the safety and comfort of employees and visitors throughout the Capitol Complex. As an Electrician 1, you will support the electrical needs of the Capitol Complex and nearby buildings by handling a wide range of skilled tasks. Your work helps ensure essential equipment and systems remain safe and reliable. In this role, you will perform the following duties:
- Install, maintain, and repair wiring, lighting, controls, and other electrical components.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of National Electrical Code standards.
- Identify and correct power failures and short circuits using proper tools and procedures.
- Operate volt‑ohm‑milliamp meters, amprobes, meggers, and similar devices to complete assigned work.
- Follow blueprints and coordinate with other trades to prepare materials and support smooth project flow.
Note: This position is considered essential. You will be required to report in‑office during emergencies and office closings.
Work Schedule and Additional Information- Full‑time employment, 37.5 hours per week.
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch.

In some cases, the starting salary may be non‑negotiable.
- Successful completion of the Electrician Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Four years of experience installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems, components, and equipment; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Possession of a valid license as a journey‑level electrician issued by the local Pennsylvania jurisdiction (City of Harrisburg).
- Possession of an active motor vehicle license.
- Willingness and ability to work in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.
- Ability to perform essential job functions.
- Formal training in a high school or vocational program, apprenticeship, or post‑high school technical program in the electrical trade.
- Electrical experience in the commercial or industrial setting.
- Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints.
- Experience with 3‑phase electrical systems.
- Experience working with voltages up to and including 480 V.
- Experience as a lead worker on an electrical project and/or job.
- Experience in snow removal with plows, snow blowers, or other snow removal equipment.
- Willingness and ability to work from ladders, scaffolding, bucket trucks, or man lifts.
- Pennsylvania law (51 Pa. C.S. 7103) provides employment preference for qualified veterans for appointment to many state and local government jobs.
