HVAC Refrigeration Technician - Norristown State Hospital

This position focuses on repairing, maintaining, and installing heating, cooling, and refrigeration systems that support safe and efficient hospital operations. The work involves technical troubleshooting, system upkeep, and collaboration with other staff to ensure dependable environmental controls. As a Refrigeration Technician, you will perform the following duties:

• System Maintenance:Repair heating, refrigeration, and air conditioning systems throughout the facility
• Technical Diagnostics:Troubleshoot and diagnose issues using schematics and control systems
• Equipment Installation:Install new HVAC and refrigeration units, including tubing, fittings, and assembly
• Preventative Tasks:Complete routine maintenance and clean towers, coils, and related components
• Safety Compliance:Observe all safety rules and follow proper procedures during every task
• Record Keeping:Provide updates to the supervisor on completed work, needed supplies, and future tasks

• Full‑time employment, 37.5 hours per week
• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch. Your schedule may change based on operational needs.

• Successful completion of the HVAC and Building Automation Technician trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
• Three years of experience in the maintenance, repair, and installation of HVAC and refrigeration systems, units, and equipment including one year working with commercial or industrial HVAC or refrigeration equipment and controls; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year working with commercial or industrial HVAC or refrigeration equipment and controls.

• You must obtain EPA Universal Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification from an approved provider within six months of employment.
• You must be in possession of an active motor vehicle license.

• A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
