Position Overview
County Caseworker 1 with the Juniata County Children & Youth Agency.
Support local families by guiding them through difficult situations with care and respect. Work as part of a collaborative team dedicated to improving community well‑being.
Description of WorkThis position focuses on helping individuals, families, and/or groups—including those who are needy, aged, disabled, institutionalized, or dependent adults and children—overcome social, economic, mental, and physical challenges.
Key responsibilities include:
- Client Interviews: gather detailed social histories and assess needs.
- Program Guidance: explain agency programs and provide information about services.
- Eligibility Review: determine and verify eligibility for services.
- Service Referrals: coordinate referrals and advocate for client access.
- Action Planning: develop and implement tailored social action plans.
- Record Management: maintain organized records and prepare reports.
- Full‑time employment.
- Hours:
8:00 am – 4:00 pm, Monday–Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch. - On‑call: 9‑week rotation during and after regular hours.

- Minimum two years as a County Social Services Aide 3, plus two years of college‑level coursework (≥12 credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or related social sciences); or
- Bachelor’s degree with at least 12 credits in the aforementioned subjects; or
- Equivalent combination of experience and training, including 12 credits and one year as a County Social Services Aide 3 or similar paraprofessional case‑management role.
- Education may be proven within two months of graduating.
- PA residency requirement currently waived.
- Valid driver’s license, not suspended.
- Pass a background investigation.
- Compliance with Child Protective Services Law, including submission of required criminal history reports.
