DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role focuses on helping individuals and families improve their overall well‑being through guided support and structured training. It introduces you to the responsibilities of casework while building your skills step by step. As a County Caseworker 1 in the Ongoing Unit, you will perform the following duties:

  • Client Interviews:
    Conduct interviews to gather information about client needs
  • History Development:
    Obtain social histories to understand client backgrounds
  • Eligibility Verification:
    Determine and verify eligibility for services
  • Support Services:
    Provide counseling, referrals, and supportive services
  • Family Planning:
    Assist families in creating plans to improve functioning and child well‑being
  • Case Documentation:
    Maintain case records and prepare studies
Work Schedule and Additional Information
  • Full‑time employment, 37.5 hours per week.
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 1‑hour lunch.
    • Once a caseworker is trained, normal working hours from 8am to 4:30pm may be flexed to coincide with consumer needs.
    • Employee may have irregular hours, including evenings or weekends.
    • Caseworkers may be put on a rotation for on‑call services which will include nights and weekends.
    • Employee may have overnight travel or out of County travel on a monthly basis.
  • Telework:
    You will not have the option to telework in this position.

Required Experience, Training & Eligibility QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements
  • Two years of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 and two years of college level course work which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or
  • A bachelor's degree which includes or is supplemented by successful completion of 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and one year of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 or in a similar position performing paraprofessional case management functions.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within two months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.
Other Requirements
  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements
  • You must pass a background investigation.
  • A conditional offer of employment will require a drug screening.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
