Position Overview
The Wayne County Transportation Department in Honesdale, PA seeks dependable, compassionate part‑time Van Drivers to provide door‑to‑door transportation for county residents, including seniors and wheelchair‑dependent persons.
Responsibilities- Drive a County Van:
Operate a county vehicle an average of 150 miles each day to provide transportation service to our consumers including senior adults and wheelchair‑dependent persons. - Communicate Well:
Excellent communication skills required, both person to person and via two‑way radio. - Help Consumers:
Willingness and patience to assist consumers, including senior adults and wheelchair‑dependent consumers, along rough payment or unpaved paths. - Be Adaptable:
Easily adjust in daily schedule to help meet consumer needs. - Be Kind and On Time:
Provide important assistance and socialization while following a schedule to help multiple consumers throughout the day.
- Part‑time employment, 14–21+ hours per week.
- Transportation operates 4:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Monday through Friday and limited hours on Saturdays.
- Telework:
You will not have the option to telework in this position. - Salary:
In some cases, the starting salary may be non‑negotiable.
- One year of employment which required operation of a motor vehicle as a regular duty; or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.
- No suspension of driver’s license within the last three years.
- Must meet the PA residency requirement.
- Must be able to perform essential job functions.
- A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination and drug screening.
- You must pass a background investigation.
- This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law, which includes the requirement that a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
Pennsylvania law (51 Pa. C.S. § 7103) provides employment preference for qualified veterans for appointment to many state and local government jobs.
Telecommunications Relay Service (TRS)Service 711 is available for individuals with hearing and speech disabilities or other individuals.
