Pay: $28-34/hr
Job Type: Contract-to-Hire
Schedule:
M-F 7:30am - 4:00pm OR 6:00pm - 2:00am
- Set up and operate grinding machines to sharpen cutting tools according to blueprint specifications and production requirements.
- Read blueprints, job orders, and work instructions to determine tooling requirements, dimensions, tolerances, and grinding specifications.
- Select, install, and dress grinding wheels based on tool geometry, material, and finish requirements.
- Position and secure cutting tools using magnetic chucks, fixtures, arbors, and centers.
- Adjust machine controls, feed rates, spindle speeds, and grinding wheel positioning to achieve required tolerances.
- Measure finished cutting tools using micrometers, calipers, fixed gauges, optical comparators, and surface gauges to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Perform wheel dressing to maintain proper cutting action and tool geometry.
- Grind special form tools requiring custom setups and precision wheel dressing.
- Design, modify, repair, or manufacture special cutting tools according to engineering specifications.
- Braze or solder carbide tips onto cutting tools as required.
- Maintain inspection records and follow all quality, safety, and manufacturing procedures.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 2+ years of cutter grinding or tool grinding experience.
- Experience operating manual or CNC grinding equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and tooling specifications.
- Experience using precision measuring equipment including micrometers, calipers, optical comparators, surface gauges, and fixed gauges.
- Knowledge of grinding wheel selection, wheel dressing, abrasives, and cutting tool geometry.
- Experience sharpening carbide tooling, drills, end mills, reamers, or specialty cutting tools is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain tight tolerances and produce high-quality tooling.
- Experience in aerospace, defense, automotive, or precision manufacturing environments is a plus.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.
