Director, Development and Community Relations

Regular Full-Time Senior Management Bethpage, NY, US

Salary Range: $ To $ Annually

Primary Purpose of Job

The Director of Development is responsible for providing strategic leadership for all fundraising, donor relations, marketing, communications, special events, and development initiatives. This position oversees the planning, implementation, and evaluation of comprehensive fundraising strategies designed to secure philanthropic support, strengthen community engagement, and advance the organization’s mission and long-term sustainability.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required. Masters preferred in a related field.
  • Minimum of five years of progressively fundraising or business development experience.
  • Minimum of three years of management and supervisory experience. Five years or more preferred.
Essential Functions Fundraising and Donor Relations
  • Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual donors.
  • Recruit, cultivate, and expand the organization’s planned giving program.
  • Establish and monitor short-term and long-term fundraising goals for existing and prospective funding sources.
  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift and capital campaign donors.
  • Develop and oversee direct mail campaigns, annual appeals, major gift initiatives, and other fundraising solicitations.
  • Plan and implement donor recognition programs, stewardship activities, and appreciation events.
  • Track, manage, and oversee submissions of grant proposals to corporations, foundations, and other funding sources.
  • Research, identify, prepare, and submit foundation and corporate grant applications in collaboration with the Development team.
Board and Volunteer Engagement
  • Partner with the Board of Directors to strengthen fundraising efforts and provide strategic guidance and support.
  • Participate in the cultivation, recruitment, orientation, and stewardship of ACLD Foundation Board members.
  • Recruit, engage, and support fundraising event committee members and volunteers.
Event Management
  • Plan, develop, and oversee fundraising and community engagement events, including the annual Gala, Golf Outing, Bowling Event, and other agency-sponsored events.
  • Coordinate and execute program celebrations, donor events, and recognition activities.

Marketing and Communications
  • Direct and manage organizational marketing and communications strategies in collaboration with the Agency of Record.
  • Develop and implement digital marketing initiatives across all platforms to increase awareness, engagement, and fundraising support.
  • Promote the organization through print, digital, and social media channels.
  • Lead media relations efforts and identify opportunities to enhance public visibility and community engagement.
  • Serve as a spokesperson and brand ambassador for the organization.
Leadership and Administration
  • Recruit, train, mentor, and supervise Development department staff.
  • Oversee departmental budgeting, monitor revenue and expenses, and ensure sound fiscal management.
  • Maintain oversight of donor database integrity and ensure accurate data management within Raiser's Edge.
  • Serve as the primary administrator and content manager for the organization’s website.
  • Provide leadership in the development, implementation, and measurement of the organization’s strategic plan.
Organizational Engagement
  • Coordinate, facilitate, and lead the Care, Connection, and Culture Committee.
  • Schedule, organize, and oversee the Family Association Council.
  • Represent the organization within the community and foster relationships that advance its mission and strategic priorities.
Non-Essential Functions
  • Serve as a member of the Association for Fund Raising Professionals and other associations as appropriate
