Environment and Science Graduate Training Scheme 2026

The Environment Agency invites graduates to join our 4‑year Graduate Training Scheme. As a trainee you will develop technical and leadership skills, contribute to environmental protection and be supported to pursue professional chartership.

What you’ll do
  • Work alongside subject experts in your base team.
  • Create a personalised development plan aligned to your journey and the business needs.
  • Collect evidence of development to progress through professional membership towards chartership.
  • Attend your base office minimum 2 days per week and visit sites and meetings at other offices as required.
  • Take on an incident role after the first year and respond to environmental and/flood incidents.
Key responsibilities
  • Perform duties that enhance your technical skills.
  • Take and reflect on opportunities to develop personal and leadership skills.
  • Actively participate in the Graduate Trainee community.
  • Collaborate with other teams to gain a broader understanding of our remit.
Qualifications & experience
  • UK, Commonwealth or EEA national with right to work in the UK.
  • Graduated with an environment or science honours‑based degree, master's or PhD (June 2021 – Sept 2026) or equivalent subject knowledge.
  • Demonstrated curiosity, willingness to learn and strong communication skills.
  • Organisational, prioritisation and adaptability skills.
  • Proof of driving licence if required for the role. (Check role profile.)
