About the Role
Alterations Specialist, VIP responsible for producing high‑quality alterations on Ready‑To‑Wear and Haute Couture garments within established time‑frame standards. Provides excellent service, maintains VIP relationships, and collaborates with VIP relations and boutique teams. Requires mastery of tailoring, flou techniques, sewing, handling intricate materials, ensuring accuracy and efficiency. During off‑season, partners with the alterations team to train and develop talent.
Impact- Uphold production standards to deliver the ultimate CHANEL experience for VIPs.
- Properly fit each garment for VIPs and alter a wide range of garments.
- Interact appropriately with VIPs.
- Maintain knowledge of alteration techniques specific to CHANEL, including fabrication and styling of luxury garments through dedicated training.
- Ensure sewing machines and other equipment are in proper working order.
- Build positive team relationships to inspire trust and teamwork.
- Alter or repair VIP garments and other articles, including hemming, mending, lengthening, taking in and letting out seams.
- Fit garments on VIP to determine required alterations.
- Communicate with the VIP relations team (globally and locally) to determine specifications, needs, and preferences.
- Use irons and pressing machines to remove creases.
- Maintain confidentiality with key stakeholders (publicists, agents, stylists, managers, assistants, VIPs).
- Create reversible alterations without cutting.
- Maintain strong knowledge of current CHANEL collections and ready‑to‑wear products.
- Contribute to evaluation of potential future members of the regional alterations community if needed.
- Minimum of 5 years of alterations experience in a luxury retail environment.
- Sound knowledge of fabrics and sewing techniques.
- Ability to work under time constraints.
- Effective communication skills.
- Exceptional client service skills.
- Detail oriented.
- Ability to lift 20 lb.
- Flexible schedule including late nights, weekends, and some holidays.
- In‑store presence required for boutique opening/closing, receiving inventory, shipping products.
- Foreign language skills preferred but not required.
- Strong technical background in specialty skills such as leather, knits, double‑face, beading, fine tailoring, buttonholes.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Passion for CHANEL, its history, products, and commitment to social initiatives.
- Curiosity and desire to learn and grow professionally.
Anticipated base hourly rate $38–$45 per hour. Base salary is one component of total compensation, plus potential variable pay, bonus, benefits, and perks.
