Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Literacy Coach, Alpha - $120,000/year USD
  • $120,000 annual salary paid weekly, plus health, dental, and vision coverage starting day one
  • Full-time on campus at one Alpha site:
    Beverly Hills, La Jolla (San Diego), Lake Forest (Orange County), Piedmont, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, or Santa Monica, CA;
    Greenwich, CT;
    Boca Raton, FL;
    Chicago, IL;
    Boston, MA; or New York City, NY (relocation assistance available)
  • 40 hours per week, entirely classroom-based with K-3 students

Your structured-literacy training — Orton-Gillingham, LETRS, Wilson, IMSE, or a Master's in reading instruction — has opened doors to every K-3 reading position you've pursued. In most roles, it also defined the limit: you delivered a pre-built program and tracked results. At Alpha, that credential is where you begin. If this distinction resonates with you, continue reading.

Alpha has redesigned traditional instruction. Students move through academic content independently using AI-adaptive applications. There are no lectures, textbooks, or pacing calendars.

Your position fills the space where human expertise cannot be replaced. You build 20-minute small-group workshops using real-time application data; sessions are brief intentionally, because targeted precision outperforms duration.

You also lead motivation sessions designed to bring 100% of students to their weekly app targets using Alpha's motivational framework (school currency, leaderboards, age-appropriate gamification).

You catch a miscue during a session, identify the phonemic weakness, and have the next day's workshop adjusted before the day ends. That is the expectation.

Families enrolling at these campuses have selected Alpha for measurable outcomes, not simply enrollment. Parents receive weekly data on their child's reading development, and they ask questions.

You will field specific inquiries about individual student progress, and vague reassurances will not suffice. You will reference the running record, identify the phonemic deficit, and describe your intervention. That level of accountability should energize you, not slow you down.

Your initial months center on establishing credibility. Workshops must be engaging, appropriately leveled, and demonstrably effective; student satisfaction and "love your Guide" survey results (target 90%+) provide direct feedback.

Once you prove effectiveness, your influence grows beyond your own room: successful approaches with your students become templates for other Alpha campuses, and your diagnostic precision informs reading instruction as Alpha scales. What you create here extends well past your classroom.

Before an offer is extended, you will submit a short video sharing an engaging story for young children, and you will spend a full day on campus working directly with K-3 students. Low energy with children is disqualifying, regardless of credential strength. That is intentional. Apply today.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Building small-group K-3 reading workshops using live adaptive-app data, rooted in structured-literacy approaches (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, LETRS, IMSE, or equivalent)
  • Leading daily motivation sessions that bring 100% of students to their weekly app targets using Alpha's motivational framework (school currency, leaderboards, age-appropriate gamification)
  • Analyzing AI-generated performance metrics (fluency curves, decoding accuracy, comprehension indicators) to modify instruction mid‑day, not only during planning time
  • Conducting running records, fluency probes, and decoding assessments to generate gains reflected in the weekly campus data review
  • Serving as the engaging, high-energy adult your K‑3 students anticipate seeing daily
What You Won’t Be Doing
  • Implementing a published reading curriculum, scripted program, or district pacing guide; you create lessons driven by student data
  • Delivering lectures to a full class; all teaching occurs in small, targeted groups while students complete academic subjects through adaptive apps
  • Functioning as a reading consultant, teacher coach, or district-level specialist; you are in the classroom with children every day
  • Managing a traditional classroom schedule: subject-by-subject lectures, homework review, test preparation. Your schedule…
