Teaching Assistant- 1:1 Student Support
We are seeking a full-time Teaching Assistant / 1:1 Student Support to work directly with a bright neurodivergent second-grade student during the school day.
This role is ideal for someone with strong school-based experience who understands child development, learning differences, and classroom support. The right candidate will help the student succeed academically, socially, and emotionally while building independence, confidence, executive functioning, frustration tolerance, and self-advocacy skills.
The position involves close collaboration with teachers, parents, and outside support providers to ensure consistency and steady progress across settings.
Responsibilities
- Provide full-time, in-person support to one second-grade student throughout the school day.
- Support classroom participation, task initiation, work completion, organization, and independence.
- Assist with reading, writing, math, Hebrew, and classroom assignments.
- Help the student stay engaged, follow directions, and navigate transitions and challenges during the school day.
- Build skills in frustration tolerance, flexibility, confidence, and self-advocacy.
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, therapists, and school staff to support student success.
- Track progress, document observations, and share regular updates and recommendations.
- Use effective strategies that promote long-term independence and reduce reliance on adult support over time.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience working with elementary-aged students in school settings.
- Strong understanding of child development, executive functioning, learning support, and classroom-based intervention, as well as experience with the Orton-Gillingham approach.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- Experience supporting students with attention, learning, executive functioning, or classroom-engagement challenges strongly preferred.
- Classroom teaching, special education, or school-based support experience preferred.
- Experience with Hebrew/Judaic Studies or familiarity with Jewish day school settings is a plus.
Compensation: $25-$33/hour DOE
