Job Description

Working under direct supervision, the Research Associate II performs routine and increasingly complex laboratory tasks and procedures and develops technical expertise in one or more areas relevant to research projects. The Research Associate II will participate in research activities involving all aspects of the research process, including investigation, technical testing/validation of results, and reporting findings. The Associate will perform a variety of routine experimental protocols and procedures to support laboratory research projects, observe and comply with safety standards and procedures, assist in preparing data for publication and/or presentation at scholarly meetings, and assist in general laboratory maintenance.

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

• Perform a variety of increasingly complex experimental protocols and procedures and assist in the design of new complex or unusual protocols and techniques.
• Keep accurate and detailed records of experiments and results, and assist in identifying and troubleshooting unexpected results.
• Order laboratory supplies and support laboratory operations.
• Maintain lab equipment and related records and may coordinate use of lab equipment.
• Assist in the operation of specialized equipment as required by the area of research.
• Assist in the preparation of data for publication and/or presentation at scholarly meetings.
• Observe and comply with safety standards and procedures.
• Orient research laboratory assistants or lower level research associates and undergraduate student researchers on day-to-day lab operations and routine procedures.

• Bachelor’s in Science related field.
• 1 year of research laboratory experience.

• MS or MPH in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, or a related field.
• Strong interest in cancer and population health research, specifically breast cancer survivorship.
• Experience with study initiation, database management, and statistical analyses.
• Proficiency in programming using statistical software such as R, SAS, or Stata.
• Ability to present research results and contribute to manuscript preparation.
• Strong analytic skill set for conducting epidemiologic analyses.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and dynamic research environment.
• Commitment to improving the lives of cancer survivors through research.
